Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 15, 2026
The Short Version
TYNKR is a local-first desktop application. Your code, files, conversations, and AI interactions stay on your device. We only collect the minimum information needed to manage licensing and deliver updates. We do not sell your data. We do not run analytics or telemetry inside the app.
1. What We Collect
1.1 Licensing & Payment
When you start a free trial or purchase a license, we collect:
- Email address — used to deliver your license key and for support communications.
- Hardware fingerprint — a one-way hash derived from your device's hardware identifiers, used solely to enforce the 3-device limit per license. We cannot reverse this hash to identify your hardware.
- Payment information — processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
1.2 Auto-Updates
TYNKR periodically checks for updates by requesting a manifest file from GitHub. This request contains a standard HTTP user-agent header. We do not log or store these requests. You can disable auto-update checks in Settings.
1.3 What We Do Not Collect
- No telemetry or usage analytics
- No crash reports (unless you manually send one to us)
- No file contents, code, or project data
- No AI conversation history or prompts
- No keystroke or interaction tracking
2. API Keys & Third-Party AI Services
TYNKR uses a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) model. Your API keys are stored locally in your operating system's secure credential store (Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, or Linux secret service). Keys are never transmitted to TYNKR servers.
When you use AI features, TYNKR connects directly from your device to the service provider. We never proxy, intercept, or log these communications. Each provider's privacy policy governs how they handle your data:
- Anthropic (Claude / Claude Code) — subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy
- Google (Gemini) — subject to Google's Privacy Policy
- Ollama / LM Studio — runs entirely on your local machine; no data leaves your device
- Other AI CLIs (Aider, Goose, OpenCode, Codex) — TYNKR launches these as local processes. Their data handling is governed by their respective policies.
3. Local Data Storage
TYNKR stores application preferences, layout configurations, panel state, notes, and cached data in standard OS application data directories on your device. This data never leaves your machine and is not encrypted by default — it is protected by your OS user-account permissions.
4. Licensing Infrastructure
Our licensing backend runs on:
- Vercel (API hosting) — see Vercel's Privacy Policy
- Supabase (database) — see Supabase's Privacy Policy
- Stripe (payment processing) — see Stripe's Privacy Policy
The only data stored in our licensing database is your email, hashed hardware fingerprints, license key, activation status, and payment reference. We do not store any application usage data, project files, or AI conversation content.
5. Website
The tynkr.dev website is a static site. We do not use cookies, tracking scripts, or analytics services. No personal information is collected through the website beyond what you voluntarily provide via email.
6. Data Retention & Deletion
License records are retained for as long as your license is active. If you request deletion of your account, we will remove your email, hardware fingerprints, and license records from our database within 30 days. To request deletion, email support@tynkr.dev.
Local application data can be deleted at any time by uninstalling TYNKR and removing its data directory from your system.
7. Children's Privacy
TYNKR is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. If we make material changes, we will notify users via the app's update system or by email.
